Disease, mites, queen rearing, queen cell mating check, making nucs and splitting hives. May 22 & 23

BEE CLUB WORK SHOP. MAY 22ND & 23RD FROM 11:30 TO 3:00

Disease, mites, queen rearing, queen cell mating check, making nucs and splitting hives.

I hope everyone is having a good long weekend. Trying to plan bee field days to work the clubs hives and to have bee meetings in the bee yard has been difficult due to the poor weather, and constant changing forecast from the weather men.

We are meeting up in the bee yard this Sunday and Monday May 22 and 23. Starting at about 11:30 to 3:30. On the 23rd we will be looking at a hive that has brood that has been effected with Varroa vectored viruses. We will decide on a plan of actions which could include requeening and placing the bees on clean equipment. We will also be grafting some queen cells as we will be setting up a swarm box starter on the 22nd.

We will be looking at making a few splits, as well as checking for the mating of queens we had placed in 3 way nucs. I also want to set up a cell starter on Sunday so we can graft some queen cells on Monday.

The bee club apiary is on Spiers rd. To get there drive east on KLO Rd. cross Mission Creek bridge and turn right onto Spiers rd. about 300 meters down, turn left into field we are at the south end.
